RESIGNATIONS
Nebraska assistant coach Charlene Johnson-Tagaloa has resigned. From the Columbus Telegram.
HIRES
Jason Kepner has been hired as head coach at the College of Charletson. Kepner was an assistant at Pittsburgh.
Matt Sonnichsen has been named coach at Newberry, a D2 school in the South Atlantic confernece. He was an assistant at Grinnell in Iowa this past year.
US NATIONAL TEAM
Libero Dani Busboom of Nebraska was added to the National training team.

Northern Lights 18s, M1 17s Finish 1st

LAST WEEKEND RESULTS
In pool 1, Northern Lights 181’s dominated. They have Hailey Cowles of Eden Prairie; Lauren Gibbemeyer of Cretin-Derham Hall, and Brook Dieter, of Bloomington Kennedy, all future Gophers.
In pool 2, M1 171’s came in 1st. On that roster they have Kelsey Brandl of Lakeville North, Lauren Wagner of Cretin-Derham Hall, Megan Carlson of Andover, and Jessica Granquist of Blaine.
Here are Feb. 3 & 4 schedules for the power league for 16s and 12s at the MN volleyball warehouse in Burnsville.
BEMIDJI STATE TOURNAMENT
The Bemidji State Volleyball team will be hosting a Reverse 4 Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament Feb. 3, 2007.

Glen Conley has been named coach at Kent State. Conley was coach at Army.
Laura Jensen from Burnsville was a junior this year at Kent State.
Alma Kovaci has been named coach at Army replacing Conley. Kovaci was an assistant at Army.
Loralee Smith has been named coach at Lewis. Smith has been an assistant at Central Missouri.

The Minnesota Gophers have named Dave Manka as their new assistant coach. Manka was a volunteer assistant last year. He also was a volunteer assistant at St. Thomas the year before. He coached at Irondale for 10 years.

Hailey Cowles of Eden Prairie was named MN Gatorade Player of the year. Here is a Gatorade list of all the states.

WINTER CARNIVAL TOURNAMENT RESULTS
The North Star 18s competed in the Winter Carnival Tournament this past Sunday. Their first match was against the Burnsville Badgers. After a bit of a slow start, North Star came out on top in two games.
Their second match was a forfeit.
Their third match was against the best team they had seen all day, River Falls. But even they we no match for North Star, who won in two.
Onto bracket play: North Star played and defeated the Burnsville Badgers once again, and then faced River Falls for the Championship. After a rocky start, North Star pulled ahead and won game one 25-22. The second game had about the same results, making North Star 18s the Champions of the Winter Carnival.

HEARTLAND ADIDAS MONTICELLO RESULTS
The North Star 18s won their first match against Alexandria .
North Star then faced their local rivals Heartland. North Star won game one 25-19, but Heartland came back to win a nail biter 26-24 in game two. In game 3 again it was down to the wire and Heartland prevailed again 15-13.
In the third match of the day North Star squared off against Club Velocity. North Star experimented with a 6-2 formation and won the match.
This week North Star travels to Centennial for the Winter Carnival St. Paul event on Sunday.

Bowman Invited to National Team

Gopher Kelly Bowman , Osseo HS, has been selected as one of six players added to the U.S. women's national volleyball training team. She was an opposite this year and will be training as a setter and libero as well.
The team will start workouts Tuesday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Good Luck to Kelly on this national team.
THIS WEEKEND
There are events at the Burnsville Volleyball center with the MLK scrimmage Saturday and Sunday (check my older postings)
and there are games beginning---Monticello HS will have some contests.

MLK SCRIMMAGE
The Martin Luther King Scrimmage schedule is set for next weekend at the Burnsville volleyball center.
Northern Lights is hosting the event. They have a list of teams involved too from throughout the upper midwest. Ages are 15-18. The event runs Saturaday 1 pm to 7 pm, Sunday 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. No admission will be charged.
COACHING PROMOTION
Scott Swanson has been promoted as Gopher Associate head coach. He replaces David Boos who has left to become the head coach at Ball State. also From the Ball State Daily News.
TRANSFER
Kayla Anderson is leaving Appalachian State for North Dakota State. Anderson is a 2010 5-10 setter from Lake Holcombe Wisconsin. From the Fargo Forum.

The USA Youth Team is in Europe right now. They won their first tournament, and they are in the middle of their second. There are journal writings from the girls, and the one on December 30th is written by Kelsey Brandl of Lakeville North. Brandl has a journal entry for Dec. 30th on the experience.
