Amy Braun of Lakeville North, a three time Minnesota All State Selection and 2007 PrepVolleyball.com High School All American (HHM) has committed to the UNI Panthers and Head Coach Bobbi Petersen. Amy is a 5-10 Junior OH and plays with Mizuno Minnesota One Volleyball Club 18-1's team.

Braun was also named player of the year in the St. Paul Pioneer Press in 2007.

Braun is the 4th player from the 2009 Minnesota class to verbal a D1 school.

Penn State won the women's NCAA D1 volleyball title, and now the men (yes they have a volleyball program there) are #1 in the country with a 24-1 record after beating Ball State in a sweep. Looking at their schedule the only other Big 10 team is Ohio.

COACHING NEWS
Iowa introduced new women's basketball coach Sharon Dingman yesterday.

MJ Engstrom has been named interim coach at UAlbany. Tawny Dahmes of Chaska is on the UAlbany roster.

SPRING SCHEDULES
Indiana starts their spring schedule on Saturday with an 8 team event. The teams involved and pools are Pool A Butler, Chicago State, Indianapolis and Indiana State and Pool B Indiana, IUPUI, Louisville and Southern Illinois.

Wisconsin opens their spring schedule at Marquette, plus the rest of their schedule.

AWARDS
Adrian High School junior Katy Slater has been awarded the EXCEL award (Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership). Slater is a volleyball player at Adrian. From the Worthington Daily Globe.

MacLean Signs, M1s Qualify, Theis Hired

SIGNING
Outside hitter Grace MacLean of Edina has signed with Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Rollins is a D2 school. MacLean is the 40th player from the 2008 Minnesota class to verbal and the 21st to head to a D2 school. MacLean plays with M1 18 Navy.

JO RESULTS
The M1 18-1's team took second this past weekend at the Hoosier Mideast qualifier which qualified them to Nationals.

COACHING NEWS
Ryan Theis has been named head volleyball coach at Ohio. Theis is originally from Madison.

SPRING SCHEDULE
Purdue will start their spring schedule at Michigan on March 28 with the Michigan Spring Tournament. Other teams involved include Eastern Michigan, Notre Dame, Northern Michigan and the host Wolverines.

Cara Bartolic (St. Cloud Cathedral, St. Cloud State) is the second assistant coach with the U.S. Women's Sitting Volleyball Team. They are getting ready for the Paralympic Games in Beijing this summer. From the St. Cloud Times.

Ohio will name a new coach this morning. Amanda Andersen of Centennial will be a senior next season there.

OFF TO ITALY
Northern Lights 18s are off to Italy. They will play in the Ferruccio Cornacchia Memorial Volleyball Tournament in Pordenone, Italy.

COLORADO CROSSROADS
Northern Lights 16-2s finished 3rd. 8 different NL teams played in the Colorado Crossroads event.

HOOSIER MIDEAST QUALIFIER
MN Select 18-1 finished 3rd in the Hoosier tournament and has qualified for the national tournament.
M1 teams were also were in Indianapolis.

Catherine Yager, a 6 ft. setter from St. Michael, made her verbal commitment to the University of Michigan. She is a junior and will join the Wolverines in 2009.

DE COMMITTING
Tia Gaffen, a 6-2 middle from Wayzata, has de-committed to Georgia Tech.

The net result is there are two verbals from the 2009 class, both from St. Michael-Albertville.

COACHING
Tammy Sparby has resigned as volleyball coach at Thief River Falls.

TOURNAMENT
Southern Minnesota Volleyball 16-3 team won the Gold Division at Farmington on March 1. The Next day they were 2nd at Stewartville.

THREE SIGNINGS
Annika Smed of Albert Lea has signed with North Dakota. From the Albert Lea Tribune.

Also joining Smed at North Dakota will be Taylor Bohannon a Libero from Eagan. Bohannon plays her JO ball with Northern Lights 18-1s.

The third signing is Jennifer Henke a Libero from Rosemount. She plays JO with M1 18-1s. Henke is headed to South Dakota.

These three signings push the Minnesota 2008 class commitments to 37 overall, and 13 to D1 teams. Both North Dakota and South Dakota will be playing at the D1 level next season. Here is a list of all signees. If you have a player that isn't on the list, go to my profile and email me.

Former Gopher Rachelle Hagerty has received a scholarship at Ball State. From the Ball State Daily Online.

HERTAUS TO MARQUETTE
Sammy Hertaus of New Prague is headed to Marquette. Hertaus, a DS/setter plays for the Northern Lights 182s. She was all Conference in the Missota last fall.
Hertaus is the 34th player overall in the Minnesota 2008 class to commit to a school and the 10th to head to a D1 program.

NATIONAL VOLLEYBALL CENTER

Viney Hired, Rule Changes, NDSU Clinic

COACHING NEWS
Eric Viney has been hired at Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell. Viney was a grad assistant at North Dakota State for a couple of years. Last season he was an assistant at Oklahoma Panhandle.

RULE CHANGES
The NCAA has approved 15 new rule changes. One that will grab attention is moving from 30 points to 25 points a game. Game five stays at 15. Substitutions will drop from 15 to 12.

CLINIC
North Dakota State will be holding a coaching clinic on March 14 and 15.
