It hasn't really been reported, but Amy Braun of Lakeville North is the 2008 Miss Volleyball in Minnesota. Braun was the AAA player up for the award. Brittany Chambers of Jordan was the AA player and Kate Horihan of Mabel-Canton was the A player up for the honor.

Minnesota falls to #17 in the latest D1 poll. Colorado State is lucky #13. Cincinnati is receiving votes.
BIG TEN: Penn State is still perfect, which I guess doesn't count as news. The Big 10 has released their weekly report. PSU is tops in hitting % with .395 and also #1 in opponents hitting % with .070. Minnesota is #5 and #2 respectively. PSU has four of the top five hitters by % in the Big 10.
It is deja vu all over again for the Big 10 weekly winners. Both Ashley Benson of Indiana and Ashley Edinger of Illinois were the hitter and defensive player of the week last week.
Iowa hosts #16 Illinois and #18 Purdue this weekend.
The Badgers Morgan Salow and Allison Wack play Bingo.
MISSOURI VALLEY: Creighton hosts Indiana State and Illinois State.

Bemidji faces St. Michael-Albertville in the 8AAA semifinals tonight. From the Bemidji Pioneer.

AAA: Section 3 has four power packed teams with the battle of Lakeville (North vs South) and Eastview vs Burnsville. South St. Paul is the battle zone.
Section 2 is another bone crunching foursome with Shakopee taking on upset winner Prior Lake and Chaska vs Waconia in a battle of top 10 teams. Those contests are at Minnetonka.
AA: Section 3 South is an all Southwest Conference battle with Marshall taking on Pipestone and Jackson County Central facing Worthington. The action will be at Redwood Valley.
A: Again with section 3--this time in the south again Windom takes on SW Star. Both teams were in the top 10 during the season. That contest is at Luverne.

Team Wisconsin, Team Iowa and Team Minnesota will be formed to compete among the elite of the northern central part of the country.
Nominations are being sought for Minnesota's elite senior volleyball players to be considered for Team Minnesota. Nominate your own athlete and/or your opposing athletes. Requirement: Elite senior volleyball players will only be considered.
Also nominate a Minnesota head coach to serve as Team Minnesota's head coach at the Tri-State All Star Volleyball Games.

RESULTS
Marquette beat UW Milwaukee in five with a margin of 23 points. UMW led 2-0. Leslie Bielski (Chaska) and Tiara Russell (Osseo) had 18.5 and 11 points respectively for Marquette.
South Dakota State beat Drake in five with a margin of xx points. SDSU trailed 12-7 in the 5th set. SDSU's Mackenzie Angner reached the 1000 kill level, the 13th Jackrabbit to do so. Angner had 27 kills on the night. She had 29.5 points on the night. Angner also was named Summit League player of the week for the second straight week.
AWARDS: Weber State's Brittney Bisaillon (Jackson County Central) was named player of the week in the Big Sky Conference.

There is a shake up at the top of the AAA and AA polls this week. Shakopee is the new unanimous choice for #1 in AAA, while there is a three way tie for first in AA. Marshall, St. Cloud Cathedral and Jordan all have a share of the top spot.
The former #1 AAA team Chaska drops one spot to second.
New to the polls this week: Owatonna moves to #9 in AAA. Andover drops out.
There were no additions or subtractions in AA.
Martin County West is #9 and Onamia moved to #10 in A while Meadow Creek and Mayer Lutheran dropped out.

LATE HIGH SCHOOL RESULTS
Brandon-Evansville topped Underwood in four Saturday. From the Fergus Falls Daily Journal.

Bigfork took first place beating Hill City in their tournament this past Saturday. The Huskies lost the first game, came from behind in the second game and won 26-24 and won the third game 15-5 for the championship.

The Gophers Lauren Gibbemeyer (Cretin Derham Hall) was named co-Big 10 player of the week. It is her first honor in her career. Purdue had two winners. Stephanie Lynch was also named co-Big 10 player. The Boilermakers' Kelli Miller was named Defensive Player of the Week.

YOUNG & IN CHARGE
Wendy Vang, a 2007 Minneapolis Henry graduate and former player of mine, is co-head coach at Minneapolis Roosevelt. Vang is featured in the StarTribune.
Former Roosevelt coach Jill Kalvik is now an assistant volleyball coach at the University of Chicago. Kalvik also was an assistant at Henry before taking over at Roosevelt.
AWARDS
The Big 10 has released their first weekly awards. Nicole Fawcett of Penn State and Laura DeBruhler of Illinois were co offensive players of the week. It is Fawcett's 6th and DeBruhler's 3rd honor in their careers. The Gopher's Christine Tan was named defensive player of the week. It is her 3rd honor.
Over the last weekend six Big 10 players were MVPs in the various tournaments the 11 teams played. Brook Dieter was MVP in the Creighton tournament.
POLLS
Minnesota jumped four spots in the latest CSTVAVCA poll. Six Big 10 teams reside in the poll, with Penn State #1. Colorado State is #17, the same as last week.
YESTERDAY'S RESULTS
FIU beat Furman in four on Labor Day. Pamela Gehrke (Eastview) played but did not put up numbers.
TONIGHT
Iowa State travels to Creighton tonight.
North Dakota hosts Bemidji State. UND has beat BSU five straight times.
LATE RESULTS
COMMUNITY COLLEGE

The Gophers' Christine Tan has been named defensive player of the week in the Big 10 for the second time this season. Alissa Glass of Penn State was named offensive player of the week.
ALL NORTH CENTRAL
UM Duluth has three players on the Daktronics, Inc. All-North Central Region Volleyball Team: Vicky Braegelmann, Kari Wolford, and Katie Gangelhoff. Augustana's Cayla Schroeder (Kasson-Mantorville) is on the squad and you can see the rest of the North Central team on the Augustana site.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Kristin Boyum of Kenyon-Wanamingo is the Red Wing Republican Eagle's player of the year. Plus the rest of the RWRE first and second teams and honorable mention.
ALL STAR GAME
The North Central All Star game had three players play from the Alexandria Echo Press coverage area.
MONDAY GAMES
#9 Wisconsin swept Ohio State in a Big 10 Monday game.
Siena beat Fairfield in the championship of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Karlie Urbaniak (Mabel-Canton) had a career best 19 kills. Lauren Wagner (Cretin-Derham Hall) had six kills.
By the way I added the photos to the South Central All Star game last night.
I hope to get photos up for the State tournament. My camera is bursting with photos. Some of those photos will go up, I hope, on Thanksgiving.
