TODD BACHMAN TOURNAMENT
Lakeville North
First Round
HIBBING bluejackets 2, WAYZATA trojans 0
(25-16, 25-22)

#4AA Hibbing topped an injured Wayzata team. Toni Okuyemi, Wayzata's freshman middle went down early in the first set with the Bluejackets up 8-4. She did not return. Hibbing pushed their lead out to 11-5. Wayzata came back with a five point run of their own to close the margin to 11-10. The game then shifted to a nine straight side outs. Hibbing broke from that pattern with a run of five, four points on Kate Lange's serve. Hibbing closed the first set with another run of four points.

Wayzata bounced back in the second set with a 6-2 start. The Trojan's Tia Gaffen dominated at the start of the second set with four of the six points. Hibbing roared back with a seven point run with Jill Gandsey serve. She had two aces in the run. Wayzata used their first time out at 12-9 and second at 15-10. Hibbing led 19-14 when Wayzata started to close. Wayzata had 4/5 first ball side outs to close the game. Wayzata was able to cut the margin with a 5-2 run. Hibbing pushed out to 23-19 when the scoreboard, for some reason, added points to Wayzata's total, making the score 23-22. After a long discussion the score was corrected. Wayzata scored twice after that delay to make it 23-21. Three straight side outs finished the contest. Paige Hardy finished the game with a kill.

Kate Lange led Hibbing with 11.5 points. Tia Gaffen led Wayzata with 11 points.
