WAYZATA trojans 3, ANOKA tornadoes 0
(25-19, 25-20, 25-8)

In a battle between two AAA powers, it was Wayzata of the Classic Lake downing the NW Suburban Anoka Tornadoes on the road in a sweep. The Trojans have recently received votes in the top 10 poll. The blocking and serving game for Wayzata paved the way to victory. Tia Gaffen had 7 blocks and 8 kills to lead both teams. (the numbers are only from when I was there. I arrived late in the first game with the Trojans up 18-11.) Wayzata also had 12 aces during that time.

I got to this game late due to previous commitments. When I arrived Wayzata led by seven and then added four points. Gaffen put up two blocks at point 19 and 20. The Trojans were on the verge at 24-13 after an ace by Kelsey Durocher. Then Anoka rose up with after a side out with six points off the serve of Mariah Sis. Wayzata was forced to take a time out at 24-17, but it didn't stop the Tornadoes. The final point came on an Anoka net violation.

Gaffen had a hand in five of the first seven Wayzata points in game two. Gaffen had three kills and two blocks. The Trojans had a 6/7 sequence in First Ball Side Out which put the Trojans up 17-10. Then that FBSO game evaporated and Anoka went on a 10-4 run to close to 21-20. Wayzata took a time out at 19-18 and got the ball back and added the next two points on tip kills by Toni Okuyemi. After Anoka added two points to there totals to make it a one point game, the Tornadoes missed on a serve. Kelsey Simmons wrapped up the second game with three straight aces.

Whatever momentum Anoka had built up totally evaporated at the start of the second game. Wayzata zoomed out to a 15-1 lead with runs of 8 and 7 points. Again Gaffen started things rolling with two straight kills. Wayzata then gave a lot of players opportunities to play. The Wayzata side out game delivered on seven of the eight FBSO opportunities.

All stats are only from when I started watching. That means 29 points in the first game are unaccounted for.
