DIET COKE CLASSIC
OHIO bobcats 3, MINNESOTA gophers 2
(24-30, 31-29, 18-30, 30-27, 15-13)
#23 Ohio upset host #9 Minnesota in the second game of the Diet Coke Classic.
The key was in game two when Minnesota had a lead of 23-18, but couldn't close the win out. Ohio rallied to finish with an 13-6 run to claim the win.
After the game two break, a rejuvenated and focused Gopher squad had their side out game working with nine straight first ball side outs to close the game.
That didn't carry over to game four as Ohio regained their balance. Ohio grabbed the lead at 5-4 and didn't let go. Minnesota trailed 29-22 when Brook Dieter served up four straight after the side out. Ohio burned time outs at 29-25 and 29-27 before getting the final point on a quick kill.
The vital point in game five came in rotation three as the Gophers could not get the vital side out. Ohio led 9-5 before Kayla Roehrig put down a kill. Ohio pushed out the lead to 13-10 when Minnesota took their second time out. Dieter nailed a side out kill and then slammed one down on Hailey Cowles serve to close to 13-12. Ohio took their time out to halt the momentum. That worked as Cowles serve sailed wide. Dieter again hit the side out kill, but Ohio finished with their own side out.
