FARMINGTON tigers 3, HOLY ANGELS stars 0
(25-21, 25-10, 25-22)
Farmington is now alone in second place in the Missota as they swept Holy Angels on the road by a margin of 22 points. Both teams were tied at 4-1 heading into the match. Shakopee is alone in first with a 5-0 record prior to tonight's contest. Farmington closed with a 10-3 run to take the final set. Two Tigers had double digit kills on the night---Katie Habeck had 14 and Danielle Dombeck had 13 for the night. The Tigers' Kirstee Rotty narrowed the gap on her quest for 2000 digs.
Farmington used a 9-2 run in the middle of the first set that put the Tigers in control. The Stars had to use their first time out after a five point Farmington run to make it 11-8. HA did get the side out then and added a kill by Amanda King, but the Tigers added four more points forcing the second Stars time out at 15-10. Again King got the side out. Neither team sided out that strongly at the start of the first set, but once both teams got into rhythm the first ball side outs came easier. HA was 7/8 to close out the first set while Farmington was 7/9. Habeck had six points for the Tigers in set one.
The first four Tiger servers in set two each had runs of 3 or more. Added together Farmington led 18-4 before the Stars got their first side out (and that was off of a missed Tiger serve). This set was over and out quickly. Of the first 8 Farmington points, five were on Stars hitting errors and one missed serve. Danielle Dombeck provided six points in this contest including five in a a8-1 stretch.
The third set was the most interesting. Farmington came out like it was going to be a replay of set two with a 3-0 run. The Stars found their mojo with a 9-3 run. During the run Farmington was forced to take a time out. The Stars pushed their lead out to 19-15 when the Tigers roared back in the action. Habeck got the side out kill that turned the set around. Amanda Rudolph served up four points with Habeck knocking down two more kills. The Stars used both their time outs in that Tiger surge. Habeck had a total of six points in the last 10 points for the Tigers including the final stamp of the night.
This marked the third time I have seen Holy Angels on the year. I have been working off the top 25 list of MaxPreps and Farmington was #25. So that leaves three teams in the top 25 list to see.
