WAYZATA'S WEEK
The Wayzata HS volleyball split its first pair of matches of the 2006 season this past week.

On Tuesday, August 29th, the Trojans lost in five to perennial state power Apple Valley HS, 19-25, 25-23, 30-28, 20-25, 13-15. In the fifth game, Apple Valley built a 12-8 lead before Wayzata stormed back to a 13-13 tie. It was not to be on this night though as Apple Valley finished the match with a kill from one of their outside hitters.

On Thursday, August 31st, the Trojans enjoyed a three-game sweep of Anoka HS, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 for their first victory of the year. A week prior to their contest with the Trojans, the Tornadoes defeated Wayzata’s Classic Lake rival Hopkins 3-0.

This week, Wayzata plays @ Minnetonka on Tuesday, September 5th, hosts its first home match Thursday, 9/7 vs. Armstrong, and travels to Marshall on Friday & Saturday to play in the inaugural Southwest Challenge Cup, a 16-team tournament filled with some of the state’s top teams.

DENVER PREMIER CHALLENGE
Concordia St. Paul split games on Saturday in the Denver Premier Challenge. They were placed in the gold division after Friday, but lost to Tampa in five. 29-31. 30-26, 30-21, 28-30, 13-15. They swept Washburn 23, 16, 21 for third. Kelsey Kyro was named MVP of the tournament. Jessica Lucia, and Maggie McNamara also made the all tournament list.
