WOODBURY royals 3, FRIDLEY tigers 1
(25-15, 22-25, 25-11, 25-12)

The Woodbury Royals beat the youngsters from Fridley in a four game match on the road. Fridley uses two 8th graders in their rotation with setter Nicole Langiewicz and outside hitter Rachel Duehn seeing a lot of varsity time. Fridley did take the second game in a tight back and forth contest. Virginia Senf and Greta Strenger each had double digit kills for the Royals. But the top point getter of the night was Erin Green of Fridley with a total of 16. Green used her block for seven points on the night.

In game one Green established her block game early with three of the first four Fridley points off her block. Fridley led early 4-2. Woodbury broke the game open on Libero Alyssa Raiola's serve with seven straight service points to make it 17-8. Raiola had a pair of aces in the run. Fridley had to use their second time out (there first was used due to equipment violation) at 16-8. Woodbury took the first game 25-14.

Game two had the most drama in the night. Neither team got any traction. There was one sequence with nine straight side outs. Fridley was using their middle to get the ball back. Woodbury spread it around. Fridley started a 5-0 run on a side out kill by Green. Off of Duehn's serve they added four more points to make it 22-18. Fridley was on the verge at 24-19 after Green's first serve, but a missed serve gave the ball back to Woodbury. The Royals added a couple more points until Caitlin McKernon had a tip kill to put a game in the Fridley column 25-22.

The win got Woodbury's attention. They jumped out to a 4-0 lead and 11-1 lead after their first two servers. Kara Pedersen served up six straight points with Greta Strenger putting down two kills in the run. The side out game that worked well in game two for Fridley disappeared in games three and four. Woodbury had five runs of 3 or more in this game alone. Late in the contest Virginia Senf made her mark with four straight Woodbury points off her right side attack.

Woodbury again established a 6-1 lead after the first two servers. Fridley's Green was able to tie the game on her serve at 6. A side out kill by Senf gave the ball back to Woodbury and Pedersen put up three more points, two on her own aces, to make it 10-6. Senf added 8 points on the next Woodbury serve with two kills by Kelzenberg in the run. The night ended on Michelle Graham's ace serve 25-12.
