GOPHERS 3, PURDUE 1
(28-30, 30-26, 30-25, 30-22)
#23 Minnesota won their game in "the barn" over #9 Purdue. You can get the details in the respective press releases. Megan Crumpston was the face on the ticket to enter the game, and she delivered a career high 22 kills as a result.
NUMBER CRUNCHING
team, 1stso/serves--1stso%; pts scored, % earned, % allowed
Minnesota 36/61---.590; 118; .814; .252
Purdue 25/60---.417; 103; .748; .186
Minnesota had better side out % even in game one when they were beat. The problem in that game was the four points they gave up in rotation four, and the four point run in rotation two later in that first game. In fact that was the back breaker with a 22-19 lead and failing to get the side out.
ROTATION POINTS
1 Tan 19-14 +5
2 Peniata 24-20 +4
3 Bowman 25-20 +5
4 Crumpston 17-15 +2
5 Nelson 20-14 +6
6 Hartmann 13-20 -7
Nelson's rotation came through to lead with a +6 on the night, and three other rotations were slightly behind.
However Hartmann's rotation has consistently been in the negative category this big 10 season with -4 against Michigan, -2 against Michigan State; -2 against Indiana; and -7 against Purdue.
The odd thing was I went over the StarTribune five times and never saw a story about the match, just the box in the scoreboard section on the last inside page. We do have a team ranked in the top 25 and I would have thought a battle between two top 25 teams would merit some ink.
North Dakota State won their home opener, that is right their home opener on October 14, over Utah Valley State 3-1. It was the 7th straight win for NDSU.
D2 ACTION
NORTH CENTRAL
MSU Mankato went the distance with St. Cloud State and survived.
#5 UM Duluth had a bit of a surprising struggle with South Dakota as that match went five games. SD was up 2-1 when UMD put the hammer down.
UN Omaha broke the pattern with a four game win over Augustana.
NORTHERN SUN
Concordia St. Paul beat Winona State in four after losing the first game. CSP then turned it up a notch in game two 30-6. CSP only hit .070 in game one. Story from the Winona Daily News. I found the box on Winona State's site.
#22 SW MN State took care of UM Crookston in three 16, 20, 21.
#23 Wayne State swept Bemidji State 12, 16, 19.
Northern State swept MSU Moorhead 19, 23, 24
Upper Iowa went out of the conference to get swept by Missouri Western.
