BLAINE 3, WOODBURY 0
25-18, 25-16, 25-17

Tonight was a battle between Blaine, who finished in a three way tie for first in the Northwest Suburban and Woodbury who finished in 3rd in the Suburban East. Blaine was on the attack all night, had better ball control and their defense was tough.

Blaine established themselves after trailing 4-2 in the first game with 7 straight side outs. Woodbury wasn't air tight with their side outs. They were only able to get two in the same stretch. When Arriel Mewhorter served three points to put Blaine up 17-10 Woodbury took a time out. Two kills by Greta Strenger, one on a side out and one on Virginia Senf's serve helped Woodbury to cut the lead to 17-13. Jessica Granquist of Blaine put them on the edge of victory with three service points including two aces to make it 23-15. Woodbury's Amy Bomgren put down two kills, but Mewhorter finished it for Blaine. The odd fact is Bomgren had all four of her kills in game one.

Blaine didn't have the string of side outs like in game one, but they had more than Woodbury. Woodbury did lead early 6-4, but Molly Kreklow served up three points including the last two aces in propelling Blaine up 8-6. Woodbury did have on last thrust with Brianna Lockie's serve. Woodbury added three points to their totals to make it 12-11 before a side out tied it and gave the ball back to Blaine and Jackie Kelly. Kelly served up four points and was helped by two blocks by Mewhorter and Kirstin Cook. That made the score 16-12 and Woodbury took a time out. But Blaine finished game two with a 9-4 run including three straight service points from Kreklow.

Game three was tied at 10-10 when Blaine took control. The got a side out on a Mewhorter kill and then Cook served up three points, all Woodbury hitting errors, and Blaine led 14-10. Blaine got the first ball side out rolling late in this contest closing out the game with four straight. Kelly served up three points to close to 24-16 with her last two coming on ace serves. A missed serve (the 6th Blaine missed serve in game 3) returned the ball to Woodbury, but on Bomgren's serve Woodbury had a hitting error to end the night.
