Bloomington Kennedy 3, Edina 0
25-19, 25-11, 25-17
Kennedy, powered by their two D1 players Naomi Johnson (Northwestern) and Brook Dieter (Minnesota) swept past Edina in a match up between the Lake and Classic Lake. Dieter and Johnson combined for 30 points total with 23 kills, 2 blocks and 5 aces. Johnson 6-3 and Dieter 6-2 also play the back rotation.
Kennedy grabbed an early 7-1 lead. Ashley Suapaia served up five points with Dieter putting down 2 kills and sharing a block with Johnson. Edina didn't help their cause with three missed serves in the first four times up to the line. With those missed serves Kennedy was able to get the first ball side out four straight times, and six of the first seven. With Katie Larson serving Kennedy ballooned out to a 17-6 lead. Larson had two aces, and Johnson had two kills. Edina tried to stop the momentum at 15-6, to no avail. Kennedy pushed Edina to the edge 24-14 on Suapaia's kill on Dieter's serve, but she served wide on the potential game winner. Caitlin Deal served up four points helped by three Kennedy passing and hitting errors. A time out stopped the bleeding and Deal served deep to end the first game 25-19. 13 of the Edina points came on Kennedy errors.
Kennedy broke open a close game on Johnson's five service points to make it 11-4 early in the 2nd game. The fact was Edina never was able to get Kennedy on a first ball side out 0/8. With every server racking up at least one point, Kennedy won fairly quickly. Also Kennedy cleaned up their game and didn't give Edina too many presents. Kennedy only had two errors for Edina points this game.
Edina led early on Ellie Squires serve 3-0. The clean game Kennedy provided in the second game had disappeared. All three points were on hitting errors, in fact the first six Edina points were on hitting errors. With all the mistakes the game was fairly tight. Edina led as late as 15-14. But Kennedy was able to turn it up a notch as they got five straight side outs to limit Edina's opportunities. Dieter also was slamming home kills. She had four straight kills with a side out and three on Johnson's serve to make it 18-15. She added the 19th point on a tip kill. Dieter got the ball when it was 20-17 and Edina never got it back as she served up five straight including aces on 23 and 25. So Kennedy closed out 11-2.

Kennedy's abilty to side out prevented Edina from ever really generating any momentum. The biggest run they had was the five points scored at the end of the first game. But they still allowed too many points on hitting errors primarily. Edina's ball control, and serve receive sent their setters scrambling resulting in less potent attacks.
