APPLE VALLEY TOURNAMENT
CHAMPIONSHIP
Apple Valley 2, Jordan 1
(17-25, 25-20, 15-13)

Apple Valley won their own tournament. This is their second win in the three tournaments they run.
Jordan led early 6-1 in game one on the jump serve of Brittany Chambers. Jordan's block game was on with two blocks in the run of four. AV worked their way back in the game to close 10-9. Christen Bowell had two aces for AV in their 7-3 run. Chambers was working the side out game well with three straight side out points and one other kill on Amanda Dietel's serve. AV did tie it at 15, but a side out kill from Chambers sent the ball back to Jordan with Leah Dietel serving up three points. Jordan finished game one with a 10-2 run.

Apple Valley bounced back in game two with the early lead at 9-3. Jennifer Johnson served up five points to finish the run. Jordan had to take a time out at 8-3 to slow the momentum. Johnson missed wide on a serve to send the ball back to Jordan. Jordan did tie it at 12 on a Chambers kill. The game was tied three times, the last time at 17. AV took a time out to stop a Jordan three point run. After the time out Ashley Franke missed her serve and AV never trailed again. On Catherine Earp's serve AV gained three more points to lead 21-17. Bowell had two kills in the spurt. Jordan wasn't able to get the last three side outs. AV topped off game two with an 8-3 run.

Jordan led in game three in a replay of game one with Chambers providing the jump serves to a 4-2 lead, but she ended her serve in the net. AV was lights out after that with 7/8 side outs including the last six in a row during money time. AV did tie it up at 3 for the first time on a Bowell kill. From that point it was Jordan +1, AV knotting it up. The cycle was broken on Johnson's serve as Kalin Stenhaug got a kill to give AV their first lead since 1-0. A Jordan time out did not stop the momentum. A double contact on Leah Dietel made it 14-12. Another Jordan time out did stop the mo as Leah Dietel fought off game point with a kill. The game ended on a Stenhaug kill.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Even though her team didn't win, Brittany Chambers. She has good balance, hang time and whip action. She is undersized for the middle post HS, but has good awareness of placement. She also came out of various angles left, middle and right.

NUMBER CRUNCHING
team, 1stso/serves--1stso%; pts scored, % earned, % allowed
Apple Valley 22/35---.629; 57; .544; .276
Jordan 21/33---.636; 58; .724; .456
Both teams were quite similar in their siding out, although AV did slam the dor shut the last six Jordan serves in game three. The key stat was the % of points due to errors. Apple Valley just doesn't beat themselves. Jordan did have big hitters and should be fine in class AA.

Next up: tomorrow morning with the Gopher/Purdue game
