STATS AND PROMOTION

The West Central Tribune in Willmar writes about the lack of help in getting stats from volleyball coaches. Only 8 of 21 contribute in that area.

High school coaches need to promote the sport, and one way is through the stats. Now stats may lie and not tell the whole truth, but that is part of the education process coaches need to make to the general public. Withholding information is not the sign of big time programs.

Time issues entering numbers may be a factor. Maybe not enough personnel is available to chart games. Maybe the coaches are new and don't realize these vehicles are available. These are problems that can be delegated.

I recommend putting your stats up on MaxPreps just to help get high school volleyball the publicity it deserves. More information, more cooperation is needed on this sport that lacks media attention. Some top 10 teams haven't joined the party yet.

Right now Brittany Chambers, Jordan is leading the Kills per game with 5.8 according to MaxPreps. The best conference in promotion right now is the NW Suburban with 7/10 schools putting numbers up.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Tiffany Yarke of Melrose has been named athlete of the week in the West Central Conference. Found in the St. Cloud Times.
