Gophers Lose Twice in St. Louis

#1 posting 9.3.2006
your daily dose of girls volleyball news & information

I am trying out a new format today with multiple blogs instead of one humongous posting.
I will start off with D1 action. If you know of other MN players playing in college at D1, D2, D3, NAIA or JUCO let me know so I can add those schools to the link list.

MINNESOTA DROPPED TWICE IN ST. LOUIS
The Gophers lost twice in the Billikin Invitational in St. Louis on Saturday. The first was a sweep by LSU 18-30, 29-31, 23-30. Looking at the box score we see that Minnesota hit in the .100s in games one and three. Defensively the Gophers managed 33 digs to LSU's 40. The Gophers then played Texas A&M and were beat in four. The Gopher site doesn't have a report up yet, but they do have a gametracker account of the match. Minnesota hit over .400 in game one, their only win 30-22. The hitting nosedived after that performance with a low of .024 in the second game. The Gophers again didn't have a player with 15 digs or better. The senior experience and passing of Kelly Bowman and Malama Peniata apparently were missed. Bowman will be able to take part next week in the tournament at Nebraska. Peniata will miss that one too.

WISCONSIN SWEEPS ALL AT INNTOWNER
Wisconsin swept South Dakota State 12-30, 24-30, 29-31 in the InnTowner Invitational in Madison. They added another sweep, their third in a row in this tournament, over Oregon State 30-22, 30-20, 30-28. Maria Carlini was named MVP of the Tournament. Taylor Reineke, and Jocelyn Wack were named to the All tournament squad.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE SWEPT AT INNTOWNER
South Dakota State was swept twice on Saturday. You know the Wisconsin results, and they lost to Oklahoma 17, 19, 19.
Kristina Martin, South Dakota State was named All Tournament.

PARRISH TOPS 1000 KILLS
North Dakota State's Sheila Parrish went over the 1000 kill mark in a 3-2 win over 2005 NCAA tournament entrant Jacksonville State of the Ohio Valley Conference. She is the 17th player to top 1000 at NDSU. It was second win of the year. Earlier in the day Creighton swept the Bison 14, 24, 22. Parrish hit 1000 in this game. Parrish made the All tournament Team.
