EDEN PRAIRIE INVITATIONAL
Championship
Eden Prairie 2, Mayer Lutheran (25-15, 25-15)

Eden Prairie won their own tournament with strong net play and power hitting.

EP grabbed the lead early lead at 8-1. ML did take a time out at 6-1 but the blocking and hitting game was in fine form for EP. They had three points on blocks, and three points on kills to get the lead. EP's biggest lead in game one was 11 points three times. ML was able to cut the margin to 20-15. Melissa Kloos had two kills in a row on points 13 & 14. After the time out EP was able to get the side out due to a foot violation. EP's Courtney Giles served out with the block party again in force for EP with two more, five total for the first game. EP sided out at .545 for this game, ML at .455.

Game two was tighter at the start. The game was tied at 3 and 6. EP put up six points in the next seven serves to lead 12-7. Three of the points came on ML setting errors. Mayer Lutheran did come back to 13-12 with a couple of kills and an ace. EP got the momentum back as they enjoyed a 9-2 run. Cowles had three kills in the run. The final two points in the run came off of Courtney Giles' kills. Mayer Lutheran served in the net on their last serve a trend with three points given to EP on first ball side outs. EP finished off with Cowles serving two.

The side outs for this game may be a bit deceiving. EP was 6/9 for .667, but like I pointed out 3 were gifts of missed serves, so a .500 side out % may be a bit more accurate. ML was at .300.
