Out & About: Minnesota/Dayton

#1 posting 9.16.2006
your daily dose of girls volleyball news & information

MINNESOTA 3, DAYTON 0

I was able to attend the last game today in the Diet Coke Classic, I was at the St. Paul Academy tournament this afternoon. More on that in a later post. The Gophers came out of the DCC without a loss of a game sweeping Dayton 18, 24, 20.

Again I am not going to give a rehash, but give some information that isn't normally given. I charted every touch by the Gophers today,
First off First ball side out
Team, G1, G2, G3 Totals

MN .692; .823; .643---32/44--.727
Dayton .385; .529, .429---20/44---.455
As you can see ball control & finishing belonged to the Gophers.
How about which rotation was the best? I will use the service order used by the Gophers; for example Rotation 1-Peniata. How many points did that rotation produce, how many did they give up?
Rotation #, Name of server, points scored-allowed, margin
1. Peniata 26-14 +12
2. Bowman 14-9 +5
3. Crumpston 10-10 0
4. Nelson/Wilber 15-11 +4
5. Hartmann 11-9 +2
6. Tan 14-9 +5
As you can see #3 did not have a + margin. Rotations 2, and 5 did not side out once for the night. Rotation 2 was 6/7 in first ball side out, Rotation 5 was 5/6.

Right now Bowman and Peniata have the best passing skills, whether it was in receiving or defense. Missing these two in the first few tournaments obviously impacted performance. Tan, as a freshman is still learning the pace and speed of the collegiate game. She was caught out of position a couple times tonight.

Of course you can read all about the Dayton game, and even the Tulane game.

Next up: tomorrow at some point to rehash all the Collegiate action and HS tournaments.
