MSU Mankato Upsets SW MN State

MSU Mankato upset #24 MN SW State 3-1 only falling in game two. This was MSU Mankato's second straight win over a top 25 team. Erin Contons' 23 kills were wasted by SW MN State. The Mankato Free Press also has a story with the spotlight shining on Cassie Wolpern. Also the Marshall Independent has their views.

Augustana swept Northern State 16, 22, 21 as Abby Schmidt became career Augustana dig leader now with 1699.

St. Cloud State made it three zip for the North Central in their matchups with the Northern Sun as they swept UM Crookston. The St. Cloud Times also has some information.

NORTHERN SUN
Winona State went the distance in a five game win over Northern Sun newcomer Upper Iowa. Winona State lost game four 30-27, but came back with a convincing 15-7 fifth game win.

HS ACTION
Byron improved it's overall record to 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the HVL by defeating Hayfield in 3 straight games. Scores were 25-13, 25-22, 26-24. Leading the Bears' attack was 6'0" Senior Outside Hitter Ashley Pyfferoen with a season high 18 kills. Junior Middle Hitter Jill Storlie added 11 kill and 10 digs, Senior Middle Hitter Racquel Reker 5 kills and 6 digs, Senior outside hitter Nicole Koester 3 kills and 13 digs. Senior setter Steph Vosberg had 14 set assists and 7 digs and Freshman Brittlyn Olson had 18 set assists, 3 ace serves, and 4 digs for the Bears. Byron will face Kenyon-Wanamingo on Thurs. in their next contest.

Chelsea Naegle of Fillmore Central had 20/20 vision with 23 kills and 21 digs in a 3-1 win over Rushford-Peterson. This game & more in the Winona Daily News.

LeRoy-Ostrander swept Grand Meadow 15, 21, 23 in Southeast action. from the Austin Daily Herald.

Marshall mowed down Willmar 7, 18, 22. Amanda Beekman continued her hot hitting with 18 kills for the Tigers. From the Marshall Independent, and the West Central Tribune.

In the battle of initials TMB took RTR in five games. Games four and five went extra distance with TMB winning both 27-25 and 17-15.
