Gophers Win, Carlston's 200th, Pierce's 1332nd

BIG 10 RESULTS
#8 Minnesota topped Texas Christian in four in the Gopher Invitational. Kyla Roehrig had 20.5 points for the Gophers. Jessica Menden of Shakopee did not play for TCU.

Prior to the match, the Golden Gophers honored the USA Men’s Volleyball Olympic Gold Medal Coach Hugh McCutcheon.

Roehrig (Papillion-La Vista, Nebraska) is on a quest to reach the Qwest. From the Omaha World Herald.

#23 Illinois swept Southern Illinois Edwardsville. Abby Nelson had 15.5 points for the Illini.

Indiana beat George Mason in four and then swept Ball State in their own Hoosier tournament. Juli Pierce became Indiana's all time dig leader with 1332. Ashley Benson had 17 points vs GM and Erica Short had 20 points vs BS.

Iowa swept Portland in the Iowa Tournament. Megan Schipper had 11.5 points for the Hawkeyes. Jennifer Sheedy (Totino-Grace) had 8.5 points for Portland.

In the Northwestern tournament the Wildcats opened with a five set win over Georgetown. NW won in another fiver with Virginia. Chelsy Hyser had 20 points vs Georgetown and another 20 vs Virginia.
Naomi Johnson (Bloomington Kennedy) had 1.5 points vs Georgetown and played, but did not score vs Virginia.
Malow Bruneau (Lakeville) had 13 assists and one point for Virginia.

At Kent State, Ohio State swept Duquesne. That victory was coach Geoff Carlston's 200th. Later the Buckeyes swept Chicago State.
Kristen Dozier had 16.5 points vs Duquesne and Kelli Barhorst had 13.5 points vs CS.
Susan Halvorson (Apple Valley) had 3 digs vs Duquesne and had 4 aces vs CS.

#25 Michigan swept Western Kentucky in the Michigan tournament. Juliana Paz had 14 points for Michigan.

#1 Penn State swept Yale in the PSU tournament. Megan Hodge had 12.5 points for PSU.

#20 Purdue rallied to beat host Dayton. Denita Merlau had 17.5 points for the Boilermakers.

#13 Wisconsin opens play today in the Cheese Bowl in Milwaukee.
