CLASS A VOLLEYBALL SHOWCASE
Bethel University
Championship
SW Christian (Chaska) stars 2, BBE jaguars 0
(25-20, 26-24)

#8 SW Christian won the first Class A Volleyball Showcase with a 2-0 win over #3 BBE. The Stars survived a furious BBE rally in game two to claim the first A Showcase title. This event was held to provide a mini State tournament atmosphere as all eight sections were represented and also showcase small school players who don't get a lot of media attention. It also was a way to level the playing field giving common opponents for the statewide polls.

The first game was a back and forth affair with BBE holding an 18-17 advantage, but hitting errors doomed the Jaguars' hopes. Three straight hitting mistakes started a SWC run of seven which put the Stars on the verge at 24-18. Three balls later the first game was over at 25-20.

SWC led early and never trailed in set two. The first four SWC points came on either hits or blocks by Cassie Haag. BBE tried to stop the SWC onslaught, and to refocus their efforts. Of the first 17 points for SWC in set two, 13 were on BBE hitting errors. BBE used one time out at 10-4 and another at 17-6. After the break BBE managed to tie the contest up at 22 all. The Jaguars regained their passing touch and therefore their hits were of a better quality. BBE never had the lead, but did have two more ties after that. Emily Roelike tied the game at 24 for BBE with a kill. Roelike served, but Lacey Hazel got the key side out. The game ended on a BBE hitting error.

The interesting fact in all of this is BBE had more points via aces, blocks and kills with 28. SWC had 24. The key factor is points allowed--unforced errors. In that category BBE was high with 28 gifts to 16 for SWC. Just as in the previous match with Onamia BBE allowed more points than the opponent earned.
