North Carolina Stuns #8 Minnesota in Five

BIG 10 REPORTS
The #8 Gophers were upset by unheralded North Carolina. It was "one of the top wins in school history." Still Minnesota won the tournament due to better set scores (8-4). Minnesota is now 10-2 on the year. UNC is 6-5.
Briana Eskola (Columbia Heights) had 30 digs for the Tar Heels.
Lauren Gibbemeyer (Cretin-Derham Hall) had 23 points for the Gophers.

Earlier in the day Minnesota swept Winthrop. Gibbemeyer again had 23 points for the Gophers.

Cincinnati beat Indiana in the championship of the Hoosier Tournament.
Kelsey Brandl (Lakeville North) had 10.5 points for the Bearcats.
Erica Short had 19 points for the Hoosiers.

Iowa swept DePaul and later the Hawkeyes swept Tulsa for the championship of Hawkeye Challenge.
Tournament MVP Catherine Smale had 15.5 points vs DePaul. Megan Schipper had 15 points vs Tulsa.

Michigan State won their 8th straight with a four set win over Central Michigan.
Jenilee Rathje had 24 points for MSU.

UCLA beat host Northwestern in the championship of the Wildcat Tournament.
Chelsy Hyser had 18.5 points for NW.
Naomi Johnson (Bloomington Kennedy) added 3.5 points for NW.

Ohio State won the Kent State tournament with a four set victory over the hosts.
Anna Szerszen had 14.5 points for OSU.
Susan Halverson (Apple Valley) had 10 digs for the Buckeyes.

#25 Michigan swept Albany and then the Wolverines beat Arizona State in four to win the Michigan Tournament.
Juliana Paz had 13 points vs Albany and 20.5 vs ASU.

#1 Penn State continues to roll. PSU swept New Hampshire. The Nittany Lions then swept St. Louis for the PSU Tournament title.
Tourney MVP Nicole Fawcett had 15.5 points vs NH and 18.5 vs St. Louis.

#20 Purdue swept Louisville and then the Boilermakers swept Miami of Ohio to win the Dayton Tournament.
Danita Merlau had 16 points vs Louisville. Stephanie Lynch had 16 points vs Miami.

#13 Wisconsin beat American in four and then the Badgers were upended by Oregon State in five in the Marquette "Cheese Bowl."
Nikki Klingsporn (Tartan) had 17 assists and 2 points vs American and 20 assists and 4 points vs Oregon State.
Audra Jeffers had 18 points vs American. Brittney Dolgner had 16 points vs OSU.
